What is Speranza Animal Rescue?
Speranza Animal Rescue is a non-profit, 100% volunteer run rescue, rehabilitation center and sanctuary committed to saving the most abused and neglected animals with the goal of finding loving homes for as many of them as possible. Speranza is located on a 17.5 acre farm in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania which provides the perfect setting to offer time, patience and love to those animals needing a second chance. Speranza, which means “hope” in Italian, is an all-breed rescue focusing on pit bulls and other bully breeds as well as farm animals who may have ended up in kill pens or been destined for slaughter.
What Does Speranza Do?
Speranza Animal Rescue rescues animals from a variety of situations; animals saved have come from owner surrenders, dogs on the euthanasia list at kill-shelters and from unimaginable cases of abuse, neglect and misfortune. Speranza takes on cases regardless of the medical costs associated and provides all of the top-notch veterinary care necessary and accepts dogs with behavioral issues that most rescue organizations won’t consider.
Each animal is treated for any ailments, given time to adjust and then evaluated to determine if that animal needs rehabilitation or if it can be adopted to a loving family. If an animal has behavioral issues that prevent it from being safely rehomed, but can be safely managed at Speranza, the animal will live out its natural life at the Speranza farm.

How Does Speranza Do It?
Speranza Animal Rescue is funded entirely by donations from our generous supporters and is manned exclusively by volunteers. It takes a village to provide everything needed for the 50 dogs at the rescue, 30ish more in foster care and the other animals on the farm. The Speranza mission to save the most abused and neglected animals would not be possible without the continuous donations and annual fundraising efforts.

DONATION OF A JOHN DEERE GATOR CHANGES DAILY FARM LIFE AT SPERANZA
Michael and Amy, the owners of Alcove Counseling Services, have been long time supporters of Speranza, however in 2019 they approached up about taking it up a notch - or ten! Michael and Amy wanted to help make an impact at Speranza that would be a game changer. We did a lot of brainstorming and finally decided that they would help make a background dream come true.
For years, Speranza has used the Guido family gold cart to do daily farm chores, such as taking hay and straw bales, grain and water to various pastures and shelters. The golf cart has seen better days and really isn’t the ideal vehicle to do the growing chore list at the farm. So, Amy and Michael decided to donate a John Deere Gator!! We have had the Gator on the farm for a few months now, and it really has changed daily life for our farm volunteers - especially with our growing herd. The Gator can hold so much and can easily get anywhere on the farm. We use it for feeding, transporting hay/straw bales, projects around the farm and so much more. no
Keystone Signs made us some decals for the Gator so that we can proudly display the Alcove Counseling Service for all to see. They don’t want the attention or credit, but they more than deserve it. Alcove has donated so much - dozens and dozens of plush blankets and comforters for the dogs, all of the drinks for Pumpkinfest 2019, food, toys, treats…. whatever we have needed, they have donated.

We also named a very special pup after Alcove. Alcove is a special needs dog who spent his last seven months in a loving foster home with a Speranza volunteer. He sadly crossed the rainbow bridge on August 4th, 2020 in the arms of his family. He was so loved by so many, including Michael and Amy, who visited him often.
